The grievance committee assists individual faculty who have run into difficulty – or perceived difficulty – with university administration. The committee consists of experienced members of the past and present AAUP-UNH leadership, who will make every effort to resolve the problem in an expeditious and satisfactory manner. Formally, a grievance is defined as an alleged violation of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. The current contract contains comprehensive protections of individual faculty rights and specifies a well-defined procedure for resolving grievances. The final step of the grievance procedure is binding arbitration. The majority of grievances at UNH have been resolved without the necessity of proceeding to arbitration.

All bargaining unit members should be aware that they have a right to Union representation at investigatory interviews with administration. You must make it clear (either before or during any interviews) that you want Union representation. You may stop an interview or discussion until you are able to have Union representation. If you are denied Union representation, this is an unfair labor practice. You may not be penalized for making a request for Union representation.

Please respond to the Grievance Intake questions with as much information as you are comfortable sharing. Preferring not to specify at this time is completely acceptable. A member of the Grievance team will follow-up on any details needed to better understand your grievance. Thank you.
