The UNH Chapter of American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has served as the faculty's collective bargaining agent since 1990. Over several contracts, we have worked successfully to improve faculty salaries and fringe benefits; support faculty governance in the administration of the University; and enhance general working conditions for all faculty. Your membership and participation are essential in ensuring that these efforts will continue.
As a faculty member, you are automatically included in the Collective Bargaining Unit (CBU) represented by AAUP (American Association of University Professors) – UNH. Eighty-three % of our CBU have chosen membership. Members participate in the contract negotiation process and vote on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. They are assured of representation in all grievance procedures. They vote for union leadership and are eligible to run for leadership office. They receive communications about faculty issues nationwide from the national AAUP office. Ultimately, members have the opportunity to shape the future of teaching and academic freedom at UNH and beyond.
Membership Dues and Fair Share Fee forms must be submitted, per Article 20 of your Collective Bargaining Agreement, between September 1 and October 1 to take effect in the current academic year. Forms submitted after this time will go into effect in the next academic year.
Membership dues are currently computed at 0.7% of your annual base salary (0.35% for new faculty, 2023-24). For faculty members who remain philosophically opposed to unions, but would like to contribute toward the legal costs of representing us in contract and grievance procedures, we have a "fair share" fee computed at o.55% of annual base salary.
Our membership dues remain by far the lowest in New England, and we hope you will consider becoming a full member.

I authorize the University System of New Hampshire to withhold AAUP membership dues OR fair share fees in the amount certified annually by the AAUP-UNH Treasurer, said deduction from salary to be in sixteen (16) equal installments commencing in the fall semester and ending in the spring semester. This authorization will continue in effect unless revoked by me in writing at least thirty (30) days prior to the anniversary date of this authorization.
